Your sky is personal

Privacy without a dark pattern.

Constella has no ads, no third-party advertising tracker, and no paid tier. We use only the information needed to place the real sky around you, secure an optional account, make the community features you choose work, and answer an astronomy question when you ask one.

Information and why we use it

InformationPurposeWhere it goes
LocationOrient the sky, calculate rise/set times and local darkness, and shape the optional terrain horizon.Your precise device fix stays on the device. When horizon data is requested, coordinates are reduced to an approximately 100-metre grid before transmission. Aurora data is downloaded as a global grid and matched to your location on-device.
Motion and compassLet the rendered sky follow the way you point the device.Processed on-device and not sent to us.
Apple or Google account dataCreate and secure an optional account. The provider supplies an account identifier and account email or relay address, plus limited profile metadata when available. We keep identity metadata private unless you separately choose a public display name or profile details.
Profile and user contentShow your chosen display name, handle, avatar and bio; provide notes, star names and Sky Postcards.Stored with our database provider. Public, Friends, Only Me and specifically-addressed postcard audiences are enforced by server access controls.
Community interactionsOperate friendships, likes, My Sky passport stamps, badges, streaks, Luminary standings, favorites, watches, reports and blocks.Stored with your account. Favorites and watches are private. A My Sky stamp uses the audience you select; exact location is never attached to it.
AI astronomy questionsAfter your explicit permission, generate an optional factual answer about the selected space object and prevent abuse or excessive use.Constella sends OpenAI your question; the object’s catalog ID, name, type, designations, tagline, story paragraphs, provider-safe fact labels and values, and source names/internal reference IDs; plus a one-way pseudonymous safety identifier. The OpenAI-generated answer and follow-up suggestions are sent to OpenAI’s safety screening before display. Constella does not send OpenAI your name, email, raw account ID, precise location, observer-relative altitude, azimuth, rise/transit/set, visibility or satellite range/distance, device motion, profile, My Sky or social activity, private visit history, source URLs, or earlier questions. Topocentric distance, angular size, light time and constellation are also omitted for nearby major solar-system bodies.
Push token and device platformDeliver only the categories of notification you explicitly enable.Stored with your account until disabled, unregistered, invalidated or the account is deleted.
Support messages and safety reportsAnswer requests, investigate abuse, enforce community rules and protect the service.Available only to authorized support/moderation personnel and relevant service providers.

On-device only: compass/motion readings, recent searches, private story-visit history, and the full-precision location fix are not uploaded as account data.

When information is collected

Constella transmits an approximately 100-metre grid coordinate only when it needs horizon data; it is not linked to an account. Because the coordinate retains three decimal places, we conservatively disclose it in app-marketplace privacy forms as location data even though the full-precision device fix stays on the device. Account data and the content or interactions you choose are linked to your account so those features can function across devices. We do not use any of this for third-party advertising or tracking.

Ordinary network requests also expose standard technical information such as IP address, request time, app/user-agent information and security logs to the service handling the request. We use those records for delivery, reliability, rate limiting, abuse prevention and security—not advertising profiles.

The AI astronomy guide is optional and account-gated. Before any question is sent, a first-use screen names OpenAI, explains the exact packet above and its exclusions, links to this policy, and asks you to allow or decline. Your choice is stored only on that device or browser and is scoped to the signed-in account using a one-way account fingerprint; one account’s choice never authorizes another account. You can revoke it in Settings → AI astronomy guide; declining or revoking leaves the object story fully usable and stops question packets from being sent.

Ordinary questions and answers are processed as single requests and are not saved in Constella’s database. Our OpenAI request sets store: false. Under OpenAI’s standard API data controls, API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default, but abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days unless different approved data controls apply. If you deliberately report an AI answer, we store the reporter account, answer identifier, object identifier, question, answer and report reason in a private moderation queue. The row enters a 90-day retention window and a daily retention job removes expired rows.

Service providers and public data services

We use vendors only to operate Constella. They process information under their own terms and privacy commitments:

We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect people or the service, or complete a corporate transaction subject to appropriate safeguards. We do not sell or rent personal information.

Retention, deletion and your choices

Delete an account

In Constella, open You → Account & safety → Delete account. After two confirmations, deletion is immediate and removes the authentication account plus its profile, My Sky data, posts, relationships, devices and other account-owned records. If the app is unavailable, use the online deletion request. You may separately disconnect Constella in your Apple or Google Account settings.

You may deny location or notification permission in device settings, use a chosen city instead of device location, change the audience for future My Sky stamps, remove individual stamps or content, block accounts, clear private story history, or use the core app signed out. The AI guide is not available while signed out. You may decline its first-use permission, revoke a prior grant under Settings → AI astronomy guide, or review the permission again; the rest of every object story continues to work.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, and appeal or complain to a regulator. You may also withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis. Email info@quieteyegroup.com. We may verify your identity before acting on a request.

For EEA, UK and similar jurisdictions, our legal bases are performance of the service you request, legitimate interests in securing and improving that service, consent for optional permissions, notifications and the AI guide, and compliance with law. Information may be processed in the United States and other places where our providers operate, using applicable safeguards.

Security, children and changes

We use transport encryption, server-side row-level access controls, least-privilege credentials and account-scoped deletion. No system is perfectly secure, so please contact us promptly if you believe your account or information is at risk.

Constella is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe that happened, contact us so we can investigate and delete it.

We may update this policy as the app or law changes. The effective date above will change, and material changes will be communicated in the app or through another appropriate channel.
